At International Sharing School – Taguspark, learning goes far beyond the classroom walls — and our Mountain Club is a perfect example of that spirit. Designed to challenge, inspire, and connect students with nature, the Mountain Club lub promotes a love for the great outdoors through hiking, trekking, and teamwork.
Led by Carlien Shelley, Principal and Club Leader, the initiative aims to encourage students to discover their resilience, perseverance, and inner strength while exploring Portugal’s most beautiful natural landscapes.
“It’s about promoting the great outdoors — the love of hiking, trekking, and relying on your own resilience and strength.”
– Carlien Shelley, Club Leader
Last Sunday, our Mappers embarked on their first official trek through the stunning Sintra Mountains. The group hiked for five hours across 12 kilometres of winding trails, surrounded by breathtaking views and the peaceful sounds of nature.
“It was so much fun! We saw the most amazing views from the very top of the mountains.”
– Rachel, Student
“We did a massive trek — five hours and 12 kilometers! It was tough, but such an interesting experience.”
– Lotem, Student
For our students, this journey is more than just a physical challenge — it’s a lesson in mindfulness, teamwork, and perseverance. Every step taken builds not only endurance but also confidence and a deeper appreciation for the environment.
By facing real-world challenges and learning to rely on one another, the Mountain Club helps students develop essential life skills — from leadership and problem-solving to resilience and empathy.
As the year continues, the club will explore new trails and destinations, giving students even greater opportunities to connect with nature, grow as individuals, and strengthen their bond as a community.
Step by step, they’re discovering that the most rewarding journeys are the ones that test both the body and the mind — and remind us that adventure is the best kind of learning. 🌿
