Carlos Barata

Humanities & Business Teacher

Carlos has extensive international teaching experience at schools and colleges across Europe. He earned a BSc Hons in Applied Marine Sports Science from the University of Plymouth, and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Greenwich University in London before taking up teaching roles in England, the USA, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy.

Passionate about education, Carlos returned to university in Portugal, where he completed an MSc in International Business Management at ISCTE Business School in 2018. He is currently a PhD student at ISEG, the Lisbon School of Economics and Management, and has recently become an IB Examiner for Business Studies.

Fun Facts

Carlos was born in Mozambique but grew up near Alentejo’s surfing beaches, worked in Portugal’s surf coaching industry as a young adult, became the Team Manager for the British Junior Surf Team after moving to the UK, leading the team to the World Surfing Games in 2007, and still uses his surf coaching skills to teach his daughters how to ride the waves.
