Teaching Assistant

General Overall Responsibilities
The main tasks of the Teaching Assistants are to provide teaching support within classes, under the guidance of the Class teacher and Programme Coordinator(s).
Line Manager
Teaching Assistants are directly answerable to the relevant Programme Coordinator(s).
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the Programme Coordinator and Class Teachers;
- Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities;
- Work with other professionals, such as specialist teachers, as necessary;
- Assist class teachers with maintaining student records;
- Support students with emotional or behavioral issues and assist in developing their social skills;
- Assist in the preparation and presentation displays of student work;
- Support class teachers in photocopying and other administrative tasks in order to support teaching;
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety and ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean;
- Accompany students on external outings, such as: field trips or swimming sessions;
- Carry out lunchtime supervision duty;
- Assist in supervising students in the classroom, between classes, during lunch and recess;
- Carry out any tasks which contribute to the smooth running of the class or school;
- Undertake other duties from time to time as the Pedagogical Director requires;
- Support whole school events, such as open-days, parent evenings, workshops, festivals, Graduation ceremonies, sporting events, summer camp, plays, etc.
- Ensure that the English Language is the working language of the school and the agreed communication language with the whole school community.
- Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups;
- Meet regularly with classroom teacher to discuss lesson plans and student development;
- Assist teachers to grade tests and review homework;
- Revise lesson material with students individually or in small groups;
- Collaborate with lead teachers to recognize issues students are facing, recommend and implement strategies/solutions;
- Support individual or groups of children within a class;
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Learning Plans (ILP) for individual or groups of students, as directed by the class teacher, and to help monitor the progress;
- Attend all collaborative planning meetings.
- Participate in IB annual in-service professional development training;
- Participate in SEN Coordinator in-service training;
- Participate in in-service training as organized throughout the academic year;
- Participate in all weekly staff meetings, inset days and preparation weeks at the beginning and end of every academic year.
- Assist the classroom teacher to compile an annual list of resources.
- Be a role model of the Learner Profile attributes;
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Possess interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of people, including teachers, students, parents and administration;
- Patience to work with students of different abilities and backgrounds;
- Resourcefulness to be able to reinforce lessons and information in a way that meets each student’s learning style;
- Support the aims and ethos of the school as outlined in the Staff handbook;
- Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
- Be familiar with IB philosophy and the Learner Profile attributes;
- Understanding of inquiry-based learning;
- Practical understanding of collaborative planning and the use of Units Planners;
- Practical knowledge of technology and information literacy.
