Maria João Oliveira

Design & ICT Teacher

Maria João holds a PhD in Architecture with a specialisation in Biomimetic Design, and a Post-Graduate degree in Digital Architecture. Her research focuses on integrating biomimetic design methodologies into educational frameworks, particularly within the IB and the MYP.

Since 2022, Maria João has been teaching Design and ICT at ISS, where she has enjoyed guiding students in discovering their creative potential and problem-solving skills through technology and design.

As an educator, her goal is to inspire students to explore and innovate, think critically, and engage deeply with the world around them. Maria João is excited to bring this perspective into the classroom and to work together with parents to ensure that each child has a fulfilling and enriching school year.

Fun Facts

Maria João once rushed to a lecture by Siza Vieira and tripped on the auditorium stairs, ending up meeting one of her idols face-to-face; her travel itinerary often includes more stops at iconic buildings than actual landmarks; and she has such an obsession with sneakers that her closet looks like a high-end shoe store.
